Fire safety isn’t just a priority for firefighters, we all need to know how to prevent and react to fires. As Fire Prevention Week 2025 approaches, your business has the opportunity to step up and play an active role in promoting fire safety.

Fire Prevention Week saves lives and when your business gets involved, you show your commitment to your community's well-being. Jump in to assist in raising awareness, providing valuable safety information, and even help prevent devastating fires before they start. When you launch a promotional campaign centered around fire safety, you bring visibility to your brand and create a safer and more prepared home and workplace.

What is Fire Prevention Week?

Fire Prevention Week (FPW) (opens in a new window) is an annual event in the United States and Canada dedicated to raising public awareness about fire safety and prevention. Because the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 began on October 8th and burned until the 10th, Fire Prevention Week in America typically falls during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the fire.

President Calvin Coolidge officially declared the first national observance of Fire Prevention Week in 1925. Now, The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) organizes the event, promoting a different fire safety theme each year to help educate families, schools, and communities on how to prevent fires and stay safe in case of an emergency.

What is the theme for National Fire Prevention Week in 2025? The NFPA hasn't chosen the 2025 theme yet. The 2024 theme was  “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!™”  to highlight the importance of having working smoke detectors in your home.

Reasons Why Your Company Should Participate in Fire Prevention Week

From 2013-2022, the fire death rate per million population increased by 22% (opens in a new window). Lives are at risk in home fires and forest fires. During Fire Prevention Week, businesses can host educational workshops, provide safety training, or even partner with local fire departments for community outreach. Your company can play a part in preventing dangerous incidents and contribute to a safer, more informed community.

Why should you participate in Fire Prevention Week? Businesses have a lot to gain when they align with causes and occasions that demonstrate goodwill and positive brand values. In addition to providing life-saving safety messages, your brand can also reap general business benefits, including:

  • Demonstrating Corporate Social Responsibility — Participation shows that your company cares about the safety and well-being of employees, customers, and the community.
  • Raising Fire Safety Awareness — You help educate employees and the public on important fire prevention techniques, potentially saving lives and preventing property damage.
  • Building Trust and Positive Reputation — Fire safety initiatives position your business as a trusted, safety-conscious organization that values people over profits.
  • Creating Employee Preparedness & Workplace Safety — Hosting workshops or fire drills ensures employees know how to identify fire hazards and respond in an emergency, making the workplace safer.
  • Strengthens Community Relationships — Partnering with local fire departments or supporting community fire safety events can deepen ties with the community and highlight your business's local involvement.
  • Increases Brand Visibility — Distributing branded fire safety promotional products during the week keeps your company’s name in mind while promoting a crucial message.

Promotional Products to Spark Fire Safety Awareness

Education and the right tools are essential in staying prepared. While you may not be able to hand out working smoke alarms to all your trade show attendees, you can offer fire safety-related items during Fire Prevention Week.  These products remind us not only of the importance of fire prevention but also that your brand cares.

First Aid Kits

A compact kit packed with emergency items is a promo product we hope your audience will never have to use but will save the day in the event it does need to come out. Fires are dangerous and a first aid kit will help triage if an incident does occur.

Fire Safety Magnets and Helpful Checklists

Design branded magnets with helpful fire safety tips or printed checklists such as how to check smoke detectors and make an evacuation plan. You can even customize a fighter fighter helmet jar opener. They’re easy to pass out and keep vital information front and center.

Fire Safety Coloring Books

Fire safety coloring books are a fun and educational way to teach children about the importance of fire prevention and safety. Give custom-branded coloring books during Fire Prevention Week events, school visits, or community outreach programs. They not only entertain but also reinforce essential fire safety lessons in a memorable way for young audiences.

Flashlights

Flashlights are a useful tool for any fire emergency. In the event of a power outage or fire, a reliable flashlight helps guide people to safety. They can help find the best escape routes when you are trapped.

Firefighter-themed Giveaways

Firefighter-themed giveaways, such as custom plush firefighter stress toys, firemen rubber ducks, or novelty firefighter helmets, are a fun way to bring visibility to Fire Prevention Week. These playful items can appeal to children and adults alike. Businesses can offer these as promotional gifts at fire safety events, open houses, or community activities, making fire safety a little more engaging while also connecting their brand to public health.

Partner with Your Local Fire Department

Fire Prevention Week is all about education and awareness, and who knows better than your local fire department? Team up with your local station to co-host fire safety workshops or demonstrations. Invite local firefighters to your workplace to teach employees about fire prevention techniques, the proper use of fire extinguishers, and the importance of emergency exit plans.

Beyond the office, consider sponsoring a fire department open house or community fire safety event. Your business can provide custom-branded fire safety giveaways like flashlights, emergency kits, or firefighter-themed items to help raise awareness and promote your brand. This kind of collaboration positions your business as an active and engaged member of the community.

When you don’t have the space or time to throw a Fire Prevention Week theme event, another option is to donate a portion of your sales during Fire Prevention Week to the local fire department or a fire-related charity. These non-profits provide valuable resources to first responders who work tirelessly to keep the community safe.
